People who take photos of themselves are helping to revive the printed picture, according to research.

More than 80% of people who said they took "selfies" had also printed off their snaps in the past year, a study for camera equipment insurer Photoguard said.

The survey, which polled 1,000 amateur and professional photographers, said nearly half had not printed off any pictures.

People who took photos of art and food were the least likely to press print, and more women print pictures than men, the survey said.

The top reasons for not printing pictures included cost and not having the equipment for printing photos, a Photoguard spokeswoman said.

The study revealed that men have little sentiment towards the photos they take, with 9% deleting the majority of pictures, while 52% of those surveyed said they believed that the availability of accessible camera technology had encouraged them to take more photos.
