ONE-time underworld enforcer Frank Carberry has been sentenced to four months in jail after attacking three men at a stables.
The former henchman of Glasgow gangster Arthur "The Godfather" Thompson was convicted of assaulting Stephen Orrell, Peter Nolan and Martin Sutton with a walking stick last month.
The 54-year-old - who carried out the attack with his 27-year-old pregnant daughter - has been released on bail pending appeal
Blackburn Magistrates' Court had heard that the stables, where Carberry, once an enthusiastic show jumper, kept his horses, had been told the "Scottish mafia" was coming to sort them out.
Carberry, of Erroll Gardens, Glasgow, was found guilty of three charges of common assault at Blackburn Magistrates Court, while Nekole Carberry, of Wallace Gate, Bishopbriggs, was found guilty of two charges of the same offence.
The court heard the tenants of the stables had recently forfeited their lease, owing £82,000 in unpaid rent. Several horses remained at the stables and were being looked after by estate staff who were helping owners collecting their animals.
Martin Sutton, a retired detective inspector with Greater Manchester Police who was working at the stables, was attacked after he came to the assistance of handyman Stephen Orrell, who was screaming for help as he was being assaulted.
In 1995, Carberry was fined £500 for assault after he threw a horse's ear at a female victim in Lenzie.
Nekole Carberry, 28, was convicted in her absence of assaulting Nolan and Orrell.
She was sentenced to six months in prison, which was suspended for two years.
