TEENAGERS from across the Commonwealth are hearing from some of the world's leading journalists as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme.

Up to 300 young people are taking part in the Aye Write! Future News International Young Journalists' Conference at Glasgow's Mitchell Library this week.

Half of the participants, aged from 16 to 19, are from Scotland while the other half are from other countries including Jamaica, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and Zambia.

They will hear from top journalists on a range of subjects including press freedom, ethical reporting, technical skills and research, investigating features and using digital technology and social media to report stories.

The conference, which began yesterday, is one of many events marking 100 days until the start of the Commonwealth Games.During the Games, the Mitchell Library will become the base for a live newsroom which will see 40 aspiring journalists from Glasgow working on Games-related stories and compiling and editing reports.

Their work will be uploaded online and accessed by young people from across the Commonwealth who will then edit, interpret and produce content for their local audiences.
