A woman who died after her car went into the Caledonian Canal has been named.

Sheila Cameron, 65, of Banavie, Fort William, in the Highlands, died as a result of the incident at nearby Neptune's Staircase at around 2pm on Wednesday, April 9.

Police, ambulance and coastguard went to the scene and Ms Cameron was recovered from the water. She was taken by ambulance to Belford Hospital in Fort William but died.

Her car was lifted out of the canal after it was found by police divers.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
