A man cleared of the World's End murders could stand trial again following a ruling by judges.

The Crown has been granted the authority under double jeopardy legislation to set aside the acquittal of Angus Sinclair and prosecute him again.

Mr Sinclair stood trial in 2007 accused of murdering Christine Eadie and Helen Scott. He was cleared of the charges.

Ms Eadie and Ms Scott were last seen leaving the World's End bar in Edinburgh in 1977.
