A MAN has appeared in court charged with murdering his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter, as her family paid tribute to their 'beautiful little girl.'

Police had been called to the property in Kelty, Fife, where Madison lived in the former coal mining village's Croftangry Road at around 6.30pm on Easter Sunday.

In a statement, the family said: "Madison was a beautiful little girl who had a smile for everyone and a happy life ahead of her.

"She was a much-loved daughter who will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

"We would ask that our privacy be respected at this time to allow us to grieve."

Kevin Park, 26, who had been in a relationship with Madison's mother Anne Marie White, appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court charged with the girl's murder yesterday.

Mr Park made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody following the hearing.

He is scheduled to appear in the court again next Wednesday.

People from the area laid soft toys and floral tributes outside the toddler's home yesterday.

Former Prime Minister and local MP Gordon Brown has been among those to offer support to those closest to Madison and the community.

Madison was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where she was pronounced dead.

Initially, the death was treated by the police as suspicious.
