COPACABANA:

A man gestures next to barricades on fire set up by residents during a protest against the death of a man in Pavao-Pavaozinho slum, in the Copacabana neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro.

Residents have accused Police Peacekeeping Unit officers of causing the death of a dancer, Douglas Rafael da Silva Pereira, 25, who was found dead at a school. Demonstrators from the favela set barricades of tyres alight.

The violence comes weeks before Brazil hosts the football World Cup.
