TWIN towers rise majestically from the water as building work on the new Forth Crossing is well under way.
The bridge over the Firth of Forth, which will be named the Queensferry Crossing after a public poll, is taking shape with an army of workers supported by giant cranes and barges bringing material to and from the nearby port. The bridge will be anchored by an 820ft high central tower and the total bill for the project is likely to be between £1.4billion and £1.45bn. The work is on target to finish by the end of 2016. It is being built after a study revealed the main cables of the Forth Road Bridge would lose strength rapidly over the coming years.
