LOCAL Government and Planning Minister, Derek Mackay, has backed a week-long campaign to encourage people to use the bus.

The MSP was joined in Falkirk by representatives from bus operator, First Scotland East, the Falkirk Business Improvement District and Scotland's Towns Partnership to promote the annual 'Catch the Bus week' initiative, which runs from Aril 28 to May 4 across the UK.

Mr Mackay said: "Good bus services help tackle congestion in town centres and make it easier and economical for people to get to work or the shops.

"I want our town centres to be vibrant, attractive and safe places for everyone to use. I am aware there is a great deal of work already underway in Falkirk.

"We will continue to break down any barriers to making all Scottish towns as accessible as possible."

First Scotland East's John Gorman added: "We believe our buses are part of the solution to the Falkirk's congestion issues. We will unveil a number of exciting initiatives and investments in the coming weeks ."
