POLICE have made 20 arrests and seized £7 million worth of cocaine and amphetamine in a major four-month undercover operation.

Eight people were held yesterday, seven in Scotland and one in Lincolnshire, after a covert probe by the force's specialist crime division that spanned Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Merseyside.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Cuddihy, head of Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism, said: "We are absolutely determined to rid our communities of serious and organised criminal gangs and we will relentlessly target those involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

"Our officers have worked with the National Crime Agency and Merseyside Police throughout the operation.

"Hundreds of kilos of amphetamine have been seized and significant amounts of class A and class B drugs have been taken off the streets of the west of Scotland." Mr Cuddihy said the operation had "had a significant impact".

All eight men are expected to appear in court on Monday.
