A FILM producer is heading to Glasgow to teach budding filmmakers how to create a big hit movie on a low budget.

Carlos Gallardo, who co-wrote, starred in and produced cult action movie El Mariachi in 1992, has teamed up with independent filmmakers, Intense Productions, for a series of movie masterclasses.

The focus of the talks will be How to Make a Micro Budget Film & Sell It.

Chee Keong Cheung, managing director of Intense Productions, will also speak as part of the masterclasses, said: "It's an honour for us to be able to bring Carlos over to the UK.

"Filmmakers both established and up and coming will have the chance to hear and learn from Carlos' vast experience in the industry.

"It is an incredibly competitive business we are in and I believe it is important to share knowledge and to help filmmakers coming into the industry.

"In my career I've been incredibly fortunate to work with some of the true greats who were kind enough to share their knowledge with me and I'm keen to pass that on to others."

Gallardo filmed El Mariachi for a budget of $7000 (£4000) in his home town of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico.

The one day masterclass will cover screen writing, finance, casting, production, sales and distribution.

The Glasgow event will be held at the Corinthian Club on Ingram Street on April 28, with tickets priced from £79.
