Aviemore has become the warmest place in the UK this year beating Barcelona, Paris and even Rome by five to six degrees.

Visitors and local residents were basking iin the Highland ski resort which topped 22C yesterday. Cambridge managed 21.2C on April 21. Achnagart near Kyle of Lochalsh was only slightly cooler at 20.6C.

Colder weather is due later this week, when there could be frost. A Met Office spokeswoman said: "The cold weather is not expected till Thursday. It will be coming from the north so the Highlands will get it first."
