The family of a man who died after being seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run have been left "devastated" by his death.

Michael Delaney, 48, was found lying in Drumbathie Road, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, at around 12.25am yesterday.

He was taken to Monklands Hospital in the town but died a short time later.

Mr Delany, of Airdrie, had been returning from a night out with friends.

Police said the driver of the car involved may not have been aware of any collision and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant David Stenhouse said: "We are still trying to trace the vehicle and driver involved. I would re-appeal to anyone who was in the area and heard or saw something that could assist this investigation to come forward.

"Michael, who was returning home from a night out with friends, was a family man and devoted to his partner and two young children, a six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. His family are devastated by his death and are being supported by family and friends."
