THE curtain has come down on Glasgow's panto dream team.

Karen Dunbar and Des Clarke have been dropped for the 2014 production of Peter Pan at the King's Theatre.

After their success in Cinderella, which earned them the dream-team tag, and last year's Aladdin, theatre bosses declined to comment on their decision.

Instead TV favourite Greg McHugh, who plays Gary: Tank Commander, will take the leading role.

He will be joined by King's theatre stalwart and Still Game star Gavin Mitchell, who will take on the role of Captain Hook. It will be eighth panto for the actor, who is seen as one of the stage's best villains.

McHugh, who starred in the TV comedy drama team Fresh Meat, will play the key comedy character Smee, Captain Hook's right-hand man, in the story of the little boy who refuses to grow up.

A King's Theatre spokesman said: "To celebrate 50 years since the first-ever pantomime was staged at the historic venue, the King's is thrilled to introduce a new star, in a new title."

McHugh said: "I'm excited to be appearing in panto for the very first time and to be part of the King's golden anniversary celebrations makes it even more special.

"Having studied in Glasgow, I'm looking forward to the challenge of performing in the city's best Christmas production."
