A DAREDEVIL has become one of the country's best climbers - despite being born with only one hand and suffering from epilepsy.

Kevin Shields, 35, from Ayrshire, has scaled some of the UK's toughest routes, and is seen here on the first ascent of Arrakis Taught on Ben Nevis. In 2012, he was given the honour of lighting the Olympic flame at the top of Ben Nevis for the Paralympic Games.

He credits most of his success to his father, a keen mountain walker, who encouraged him from an early age to pursue his interests despite his disabilities.
