FORMER coaches and team-mates of Dundee footballer Peter McAvoy who died suddenly in the US have paid tribute to him at an end-of-season dinner.

The 22-year-old collapsed in his apartment last month.

He was taken to hospital, but was later pronounced dead. It is believed he suffered a heart attack.

Mr McAvoy, a former Arbroath SC and Tayport FC defender, landed a scholarship to America in 2012 and became captain of the Herkimer Generals.

The team held a dinner to celebrate winning a third consecutive national championship and some of Peter's former team-mates shared their memories of him.

His girlfriend Megan Mercer attended the ceremony and collected his national championship ring on his behalf.

Father Peter watched online from his home in Dundee.
