MOST people in Scotland believe that the Commonwealth Games will bring a boost to the country's economy and lifestyle, according to a new poll.
The YouGov survey found that 60% of people think the event will have a positive impact, while only 3% think it will have a negative effect. More than three-quarters of people think the Games will be good for tourism while two-thirds think the legacy of the summer's events will be to encourage more children to take part in sports.
Lucy Bell, marketing manager for SMG/YouGov Edinburgh, said: "People always question the impact major sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games have on the host country. It is evident that the the Games are seen by many Scots as a golden opportunity for the country, both in economic terms and in terms of leaving a lifestyle legacy."
