A pair of feuding neighbours on millionaires' row have been urged by a sheriff to be more friendly in future.

Sheriff Michael Wood made the plea to the wealthy owners of neighbouring homes overlooking the Ryder Cup venue at Gleneagles in Perthshire.

He told Malcolm Howat and James McCaig to repair their relationship after ruling the former's bid to prevent the latter seeking an interim interdict against him should be rejected.

The dispute relates to the construction by Mr Howat of a new mansion in Caledonian Crescent.

In a 30-page written judgment, Sheriff Wood said: "I express them in the hope that both parties can move forward more amicably once construction is complete."
