Double Olympic champion Mo Farah has delighted fans by announcing he will be on the starting blocks at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Farah revealed on Twitter tonight that he will race in this summer's sporting spectacle.

The 31-year-old wrote: "Hi guys! I will be running in the Commonwealth Games this year..!! See you in Glasgow..!! Shabba....!!"

It came just seven months after Farah indicated he not intend to run at Glasgow 2014, which begins on July 23.

Farah, the Olympic and World 10,000 metres and 5,000 metres champion, had previously said the games was 'not on my list.'

However, he did not completely rule himself out of the event as he turned his attention to the London Marathon - where he finished a disappointing eighth last month.

Speaking in October last year, Farah had said: "My aim is to do the London marathon and that is what I am fully focused on. It's a bonus if I do [the Commonwealth Games], but it is not on my list.

"I've got to come off the marathon healthy and then I'd make a decision. You've just got to choose one race."

The appearance of Farah is a massive boost for 2014 organisers following the disappointment caused by Olympic gold medal winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy's retirement and the news that fellow gold medal winning heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill is taking time out of sport to have a baby.

The Somalia-born runner trailed home in eighth place in the Virgin Money London Marathon - almost four minutes adrift of winner Wilson Kipsang, the world record holder from Kenya - in the toughest test of his career so far.Farah will decide closer to the time in which events he will compete at Hampden Park.

It is possible he could attempt the same double as he achieved in the Olympic Stadium in London 2012 in the 5,000metres and 10,000m.

Alternatively Farah would compete in just one of those events.

It is almost certain he will not run the marathon after his coach Alberto Salazar advised him to forget about the discipline until after the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Farah finished eighth on his marathon debut in London in April.

The marathon opens the athletics programme in Glasgow on July 27.

The 5,000m final takes place that evening, with the 10,000m on August 1.
