THE main road to the Highlands will be closed temporarily during work on the next phase of the 137-mile Beauly-Denny power line

The A9 at Dalnacardoch, 11 miles north of Blair Atholl, will shut for 30 minutes at a time as the overhead electricity transmission line is installed over three nights from Wednesday, June 4.

The work, which will take place between 11pm and 5.30am each day, is expected to finish in the early hours of Saturday, June 7.

Both the north and southbound carriageways will be shut for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time before being opened again for 90 minutes before the next closure takes effect.

John Buchan, overhead line project manager for Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission, said: "We have planned the overhead line works at the A9 very carefully and have made every effort to keep disruption to an absolute minimum for motorists.

"These works have been scheduled during the night and early mornings when traffic levels are at their lowest. The patience of the travelling public is appreciated during this critical stage of the project."
