A SCULPTURE by JD Fergusson that lay under his bed for three years before he could afford to have it cast is expected to fetch up to £18,000 when it goes up for auction in Edinburgh.

The artwork, Eastre, Hymn to the Sun, will go under the hammer in Edinburgh on May 22.

Charlotte Riordan, paintings specialist at Lyon & Turnbull, said: "Fergusson and (his wife Margaret) Morris were very unmaterialistic and always hard up. He would create plaster maquets but rarely had the money to have them cast."
