A BRITISH man who told his girlfriend to plunge her 21-month-old daughter's head into a bucket of water during an online video call has been jailed for nine years over the toddler's death.

Ammaz Qureshi was in London when he gave his Norwegian lover Yasmin Chaudhry instructions on how to discipline toddler Hunaina in the early hours of the morning in October 2010.

A court in Oslo heard how the baby was dangled head first into the bucket twice as a punishment, while already being deprived of sleep.

Chaudhry, who was jailed for eight years, admitted that she already used horrific discipline methods.

Qureshi, who had previously beaten two of his wives, would give advice on topics he knew nothing about and Chaudhry blindly obeyed him, the court heard.

They were each sentenced for manslaughter because the court found it could not be proved that they intended to kill the toddler.
