AN additional £1 million in public funding is being invested in this year's Edinburgh Festivals.

This year's festival season will see the extra cash from the Scottish Government, the City of Edinburgh Council, Creative Scotland and EventScotland.

The Scottish Government is extending its Expo Fund into next year, as well as funding the Year of Homecoming and Culture 2014.

Events this year supported by these bodies include Animated In 2014, which will feature a two-day Animation Lab being held during the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival will present the Commonwealth Jazz Orchestra, where Commonwealth musicians will come together with Scottish artists to collaborate.

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival's Once Upon a Place will celebrate connections between stories and place in Scotland, Europe and the Pacific. Storytellers from Scotland will work with writers from Germany, Italy, Portugal, Samoa, Wales, New Zealand, Taipei, Australia and the Solomon Islands.

Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "As we welcome the world in 2014 to see the best that Scotland has to offer, our extensive and diverse programme of cultural events will help to boost our international profile, and provide a platform for both Scottish artists and companies from around the world."

The extra £1m comes from the Culture 2014 Programme, worth £522,803, £176,000 from Homecoming Scotland 2014, £225,000 from Edinburgh's council and £77,000 from EventScotland.

This year will also see the second Cultural Summit which last year discussed the role and value of culture.
