Camelot has announced the second-highest ever annual National Lottery sales in the year that the price of playing doubled.

UK National Lottery sales reached £6.7 billion in the last 12 months as Camelot doubled the price of a ticket to £2 while boosting the prize pool and upping the minimum win from £10 to £25 for three number matches.

Camelot said the figures were buoyed by a "very strong second six months" as a result of the changes, which had succeeded in turning around the flagship game's long-term sales decline.

The sales also resulted in £1.8 billion for charities in the year - almost £70 per UK household.

The year saw significantly fewer EuroMillions rollovers than the previous 12 months.
