A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder after a woman's body was recovered from a river.

The body of Eileen Glassford was removed from the River Clyde, near Uddingston Grammar School, South Lanarkshire, at about 7.30pm on Monday. The 60-year-old was from Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

Paul Connelly, 49, from the Uddingston area, was charged with murder when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court yesterday.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody. The case was committed for further examination.
