THE first Modern Apprenticeship in Digital Journalism has been launched and will offer training in some of Scotland's biggest media organisations.

Up to 50 apprentices will take part in the first wave, studying at Forth Valley College which has campuses in Stirling, Falkirk and Alloa, before working for a range of companies, including Newsquest, publishers of The Herald.

The course was developed by the National Union of Journalists, working with Sector Skills Council and Creative Skillset.

Newsquest's magazine publisher Darren Bruce said: "This programme will help introduce new, talented and highly skilled multimedia journalists into today's ever demanding news and information sector.

"The specially tailored modules will help to provide our next wave of ambitious trainees."
