A FATHER who admitted murdering his two sons has lost his bid to have his conviction quashed because of mental health problems.

Ashok Kalyanjee, 52, maintained psychiatrists failed to diagnose a serious mental illness when he killed six-year-old Paul Ross and his younger brother Jay, two, six years ago.

His lawyers said that he had been diagnosed with suffering Paranoid Personality Disorder following his conviction for their murders in November 2008.

They argued that this meant he was suffering from diminished responsibility at the time he killed the children and was not criminally responsible for the crimes.

But at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh yesterday, judge Lord Carloway ruled that his mental condition did not mean that his conviction could be quashed.
