Gavin Main, the Scotland pace prospect, pictured, marked his Durham debut yesterday by bowling Stuart Broad, England's T20 captain, for a duck, writes William Dick.

The Uddingston youngster, who has spent several seasons with the county's academy, was given a surprise first-team call for his side's County Championship clash with Notts at Trent Bridge. He was hit for three boundaries in his first over by another England man, Samit Patel, but he claimed his maiden first class wicket when Riki Wessels miscued an attempted drive and Main took a sharp return catch. It got better for the 19 year-old when he ripped through Broad's defences to uproot the England T20 captain's stumps. He later took the wicket of a second England cap, Ajmal Shahzad, to finish with 3-72 from 13 overs as Notts were bowled out for 377 in the final over of the day.

Meanwhile, Highlanders moved a step closer to winning the inaugural North Sea Pro 20 title with victory over the Holland Hurricanes.

Batting first in Utrecht, the Scots posted a daunting 198-9, with Grange's George Munsey contributing a confident 68. The real fireworks came from Gordon Goudie, who struck 43 from only 18 balls while Forfarshire's Craig Wallace hit 27 from 11. Mudassar Bukhari's four wickets prevented an even higher total. Ali Evans, the former Derbyshire seamer, maintained his fine form to strengthen the Highlanders' grip, taking 4-29 before Aman Bailwal trumped him with 4-13 as the Dutch side were dismissed for just 118.

Victory in next week's Scottish derby against the Reivers would ensure that the Highlanders take the title. They continue their bid for the Pro 50 title when they tackle the Hurricanes again today in the longer format.
