A man has died following a car crash on one of Scotland's most notorious roads.

The single-vehicle collision happened yesterday afternoon on the A9 dual carriageway between Perth to Stirling, near the junction with the A824.

Despite the best attempts of members of the public and medical staff at the scene, the 63-year-old driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at Perth Royal Infirmary, police said.

He was the only person in the car at the time of the crash, which happened at around 2.20pm.

The man, who lived in the Aberdeen area, is still to be formally identified by his next of kin.

A force spokesman said: "Investigations into the cause of the collision are at an early stage although at this time, there are not thought to be any other vehicles involved."
