POLICE officers have recovered two bodies after launching a search for a missing 55-year-old from Perthshire.

The discoveries were made at Kinnoull Hill, on the outskirts of Perth, after the family of the 55-year-old reported him missing at 8am yesterday.

Police found the second body, that of a male, a considerable distance away. It had lain undiscovered for some time.

There were no suspicious circumstances apparent in either case.

A Police Scotland source said: "We were looking for a male and found his body on the hill. In doing so, police officers found another one - they stumbled across it. It's a well-known spot for suicides.

"There is no connection. It's coincidence. The first body is historical, how historical we don't know. They were some considerable distance apart."

Police said they were pursuing positive lines of inquiry with regard to the identity of the other body and would be attempting to inform his next of kin.

Kinnoull Hill, a popular location with walkers, is also a notorious suicide spot.
