A DOG has been rescued by the coastguard after falling over a cliff while out for a walk.

The canine was yesterday recovering after escaping serious injury when he fell down a rocky cliff on the Aberdeenshire coast. The German shepherd pointer crossbreed was left stranded on the craggy rocks after he went over the edge near Findon Ness.

Coastguard teams were scrambled to the area on Monday night, supported by the Aberdeen RNLI lifeboat.

One member of the Aberdeen coastguard team abseiled off the cliff and managed to secure the dog in a bag before bringing him back up top to his owners.
