SCOTLAND is on course to record the warmest spring for more than 100 years.
With the final few days of May still to be taken into account, forecasters said the mean temperature so far had been 7.63C, just above the current record two years ago and the warmest since 1910.
But despite the high temperatures, there have only been 103.8 hours of sunshine, just 58 per cent of the average for the season, while there has been slightly more rain than normal.
UK-wide, it is set to be the third warmest spring since records began, with the temperature nudging higher in 2007 and 2011.
But the Met Office said that it had been at least one degree warmer than the long-term average every single month between December and April.
