A UNIVERSITY lecturer has admitted driving with one of Scotland's highest ever alcohol readings.

Patrick Harte was almost five times the legal limit when he was stopped by police in his home town of Selkirk in the Borders.

The 50-year-old - who is a senior lecturer in business management at Napier University in Edinburgh - pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to a breath/alcohol reading of 161 microgrammes - the legal limit being 35. The offence happened in Selkirk, on April 7. Sentence was deferred until July 14.
