THE oldest Scot has died peacefully in Australia at the age of 112.
Jane Gray - known as Jeannie - was born in Newtyle, Angus, the daughter of a souter, on December 1, 1901.
Mrs Gray, believed to be the 35th oldest person in the world at the time of her death - emigrated to Australia in 1927 with John 'Jock' Gray, from Aberdeenshire. They wed two days after arriving.
Recently, Mrs Gray had been living in Summit Care Home in Smithfield, New South Wales, streets away from her daughter Heather McKenzie.
Close family members were with Mrs Gray when she died on Saturday.
Mrs McKenzie, 80, said: "She slipped away peacefully.
"She was a happy woman - I think her heart was in Scotland and I think she believed she was in Newtyle for the last couple of months. But I think it made her happy that she thought she was back home.
"Having said that, she never regretted moving here and loved her life in Australia."
Mrs Gray and Mr Gray, who died in 1987, had two children, Sandy, 85, and Heather. The super-centenarian - someone who has lived past their 110th birthday - is survived by them, nine grandchildren, 14 great grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren.
