AN increasing number of Scots are choosing to holiday in the UK this year, according to a survey.

Travelodge said 81 per cent of people they polled are opting for a "staycation", up from 57 per cent in 2013.

Aberdonians are most likely to stay in the UK, with 88 per cent saying they will be holidaying at home. The survey of 1,000 Scots suggests holidaymakers will spend an average of £439.49 on their break, an increase from £419.07 last year.

The most popular destination is London followed by Cornwall and Edinburgh. The Highlands and the Lake District make up the top five.
