BRITISH Airways is bringing two of its most exclusive aircraft to Prestwick as part of a new servicing contract.

British Airways Maintenance Glasgow (BAMG) will carry out major maintenance work on the two specially-modified Airbus A318s at the former Polar Air cargo hangar at Prestwick Airport.

The work will see around 40 engineers and mechanics seconded from BAMG's main hangar in Glasgow to the Prestwick site for a month in August. The narrow-bodied planes are used on the airline's unique all-business class service between London City and New York JFK, which is popular with business travellers as it pre-clears US customs in Ireland.

It is not the first time that BA has used Prestwick's Polar Air cargo hangar.

For the last two years until the end of 2013, the site was used to carry out specialised maintenance on BA's fleet of short-haul A318s.
