RAPE Crisis Scotland (RCS)has produced a DVD explaining the criminal justice process for those thinking of reporting a sexual crime.

The charity said victims faced many barriers when considering whether to report the offence, and as a result such crimes have among the lowest reporting rates.

The new DVD offers an overview of how to report a sexual crime and includes a series of interviews with key professionals including a forensic examiner, a prosecutor, a defence lawyer, and the Lord Advocate, and explains what is involved at every step.

RCS national coordinator Sandy Brindley (above) said "We hope this new resource will make a real difference in improving access to the criminal justice process by helping to demystify its procedures and by increasing transparency around the roles of those involved."
