A HOUSE that is believed to have sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie is to be sold at auction for at least £1.3million.

Monkstadt, a B-Listed house which forms part of an estate on Skye, was built as a Laird's house for the Macdonalds of Sleat.

Lady Margaret Macdonald, according to records, sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie here after the failed Jacobite uprising of 1745.

The house fell into disrepair in the last century and only a ruinous shell remained once the roof was removed in the 1950s.

Over the last few years the main house and nine holiday cottages have been restored.

Auction House Scotland, Managing Director, Ross Harper, whose firm is selling it next month said: "There is so much history attached to this estate."
