A USED car salesman who abducted and repeatedly raped a teacher has been jailed for ten years and six months.

Bodybuilder Barry Dalton, 40, was found guilty of subjecting his victim to a terrifying and brutal sustained assault lasting several hours. The jury at the High Court in Perth also found Dalton guilty of a series of violent attacks on other women and a man which came to light after the teacher reported her ordeal.

Sentencing, Lord Glennie told Dalton: "You left her battered and bruised and terrified."

Dalton, from Perth, was jailed for eight years for the abduction and rape in Perth on November 17 and 18 and for a further 30 months for the other offences of which he was found guilty.

He was found guilty of abducting the teacher, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and detaining her at an address in Dunkeld Road while beating her savagely.

She told the jury that she had been terrified and was too scared to try and leave when Dalton briefly went downstairs because she was afraid he would kill her.

She told the jury that her life had been severely affected by her ordeal at the hands of the burly 18-stone car dealer. She also told how Dalton had bitten her.

After she got away and reported the rapes, police started an investigation which led them to a number of other female victims and a man who had also been savagely attacked.

Ronnie Renucci, mitigating, said: "He does appear to have shown genuine remorse."
