PLANS to create a new railway station in a deprived area of Glasgow have been agreed.
Glasgow City Council has approved funding for the design of the station, which will serve Robroyston, in the north of the city.
Councillors were asked to contribute £317,000 towards the design phase of the project.
That cash will be used to put together preliminary designs of the station, with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport contributing an additional £100,000.
Councillors approved plans for a £300 million development involving 1600 homes, a hotel, shops, healthcare and sports facilities for north Glasgow in 2012.
The proposal is to have a new station built on the Glasgow to Cumbernauld line that can be easily accessed by residents in Robroyston and Millerston, as well as commuters travelling into the city.
Up to 400 park-and-ride car parking spaces will also be created with a new access road being built to the M80.
