A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car on the A9.

John Gibson, 79, of Glasgow, died of his injuries after the impact at Gleneagles, Perthshire, at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

A spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland along with other emergency services attended at the A9 at Glen-eagles after reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."

The southbound carriageway was closed for some time for investigations surrounding the collision to be carried out.

Police added Mr Gibson's family have said he will be greatly missed. Inquiries are continuing.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
