FORMER world champion boxer Amir Khan has been questioned by police over an incident in which two youths were allegedly assaulted.

However, a spokesman for the 27-year-old professional fighter and Olympic silver medallist said he was expecting the case to be dropped on Monday, describing the altercation as "minor".

Greater Manchester Police said its officers were called to Russell Street in the boxer's home town of Bolton at about 1.30am yesterday after reports of an assault.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers attended Russell Street and discovered two 19-year-old men had been assaulted. Their injuries are not serious.

"A 27-year-old man was arrested."

The former two-time world champion Khan was later reportedly released on police bail.
