AN academic from Glasgow has been named on a prestigious research institute's list of the world's most influential scientific minds.
Professor Jeffrey Webb, of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Glasgow University, was the only Scot named by Research Institute Thomson Reuters in its 2014 compendium of the sciences' opinion-formers.
The dossier contains 3,200 highly-cited researchers from all over the world and is divided into 21 fields of research in the sciences.
The researchers selected are those whose papers have been the most highly cited in the period 2002 to 2012, in publications by their peers.
The mathematics field has 99 names in the list, with only four based in Britain.
Mr Webb is a graduate of Sussex University and joined the Mathematics Department of Glasgow University in 1973.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1984. He is now Emeritus Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow.
Mr Webb's research is mainly on the qualitative theory of integral and differential equations.
He said: "It is a great honour to be among the highly cited researchers as given by Thomson Reuters. It encourages me to continue to do research to the best of my ability."
