The family of a canoeist whose body was recovered from a loch have spoken of their shock and devastation at his death.

Darren Gilpin, 29, was on Loch Tay on Saturday when his canoe capsized near the village of Killin. He was in a two-man canoe when the accident happened and his friend managed to swim to shore and raise the alarm. His body was found later.

In a statement issued by police, Mr Gilpin's parents Kevin and Carol said: "Darren was the comedian of the family and had a great sense of humour. As well as being a loving son and a wonderful friend, Darren was also completely devoted to his partner Elaine, who he had been with for the past 11 years.

"The pair loved to travel and together with the rest of the family holidayed at a number of different countries around the world."
