THE BBC's Question Time staged a first in its 35 year history when the panel didn't have a single politician on it.
Last night's edition of the topical current affairs show, from Inverness, was the last before a summer break.
Normally at least one or two politicians are present to argue or defend their party's promises.
But presenter David Dimbleby was joined around the table by singer and broadcaster Ricky Ross, journalist Joan Burnie, businessman Alan Savage and former Scotland rugby star Scott Hastings.
A spokeswoman said: "Question Time has featured many panels including leading politicians debating independence, and we decided to try something different tonight.
"The debate is not just between parties but has also involved every section of society in Scotland, and we hope we are reflecting that.
"This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first such Question Time panel in the UK." The first programme was hosted by Robin Day in September 1979.
