A CHORAL group from Lanarkshire has been invited to perform at New York's famous Carnegie Hall next year.
The Lanark and Carluke Choral Union have been asked by the Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) to perform a rendition of Karl Jenkins' Peacemakers at a special concert in January.
The group performed the piece in St Mary's Church in Lanark last April and managed to catch the eye of the commissioning panel.
Joining up with a number of other choristers, they will form the Distinguished Concerts Singers International for what organisers say is to be a "glorious and memorable" concert.
The event takes place on January 19 — during Martin Luther King Jr Weekend.
Jonathan Griffith, artistic director and principal conductor at DCINY, said the Union were invited in recognition of their "dedication to musical excellence".
He added: "The Union received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as their recent performance of the work.
"It is quite an honour just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community's recognition and support."
The Union will spend five days in New York City in preparation for their concert.
Dr Jenkins will be present as composer-in-residence with Mr Griffith taking the podium for the concert itself. He said it was a "wonderful achievement" for the choir to have been handpicked for the performance.
The Choral Union have now launched a fundraising drive to pay for their trip.
