The brute had earlier been convicted after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

During proceedings there, the court heard how Yazdanparast poured petrol over the 46-year-old mum of three before setting her alight.

On Monday, it emerged that Yazdanparast's legal team have lodged papers for his appeal with court staff in the Scottish capital.

His case will call at the appeal court within the next three weeks.

The appeal will be against Yazdanparast's conviction and sentence.
