Car drivers are more concerned about congestion than having a crash or breaking down, according to an AA/Populus survey.

A quarter of the 23,000 drivers polled said congestion was the thing they worried about most when they had to drive for more than 200 miles.

Having an accident was the second most common worry on long journeys, with 17 per cent of drivers worrying about this the most.

Young drivers were more worried about breaking down than having an accident. Around 20 per cent of drivers aged 18-24 said breaking down was their biggest concern, compared to 13% of all drivers.

Young drivers were also the most concerned about getting lost, while bad weather is more of a concern for drivers in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK, with 10% concerned about it.
