A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a gangland figure in a supermarket car park more than four years ago.

Kevin ''Gerbil'' Carroll, 29, was shot as he sat in a car outside Asda in Robroyston, Glasgow, on January 13, 2010.

William Paterson, 34, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

Paterson was also charged with stealing a car, unlawful possession of a firearm and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He is expected to appear in court again on Friday July 25.
