Nelson Mandela's granddaughter visited Glasgow's Nelson Mandela Square yesterday for a ribbon-tying ceremony on Mandela Day - when the former freedom fighter would have turned 96.

Tukwini Mandela said it was a bitter sweet moment following his death last December, adding that she wanted to thank Glasgow for supporting his anti-apartheid campaigning. She said her family wanted to come and thank the people of Glasgow, as the city had "galvanised a lot of European cities to pay attention to what was going on in South Africa".
